A Peek Inside

Created in the 1940s and 50s, the educational materials produced by civic organizations on the themes of unity and nondiscrimination display messages that are still relevant today. This gallery gives a peek inside of the booklets and posters in the New York City Commission on Human Rights that were distributed to the public both in New York and across the country.

The Institute for American Democracy, an offshoot of the Anti-Defamation League, created a series of promotional materials including posters, school book covers and matchbooks that could be ordered by civic groups. The brown paper book covers were distributed directly to schools by the organization.
